Improve Environmental Wellbeing: Clear One Surface
Your space can set the tone for how you think and feel. A cluttered desk or messy room can make stress heavier. The fix for Environmental Wellbeing isn’t a total overhaul of your space. If you marked this dimension as a (!) in your Student Wellbeing Check-In, clearing one cluttered area is a great place to begin.
First Steps You Can Try Today
- Do a five-minute reset. Clear off your desk, declutter your nightstand, or clean out your backpack.
- Create a signal. How can you cue your brain that it’s time to get down to business with items you have on hand? Turn on a lamp or grab a blanket to throw over your lap to signal “study mode.”
- Park your phone. Pick a spot in your room to leave your phone during focused work time. Don’t forget to turn off notifications!

A Weekly Habit to Keep Going
Schedule a twenty-minute room reset every Sunday. Throw away trash, make your bed, and put dirty laundry in the hamper. This will help you start each week with a clear environment.
Stack It With Another Dimension
Add elements to your space like a plant or salt lamp that will help you calm the mind enough to focus on reflection and boost Spiritual Wellbeing.
If You’re Stuck
If your living space feels overwhelming, ask housing staff for ideas on organizing. They’ve likely seen lots more dorm room set-ups than you and may have ideas you hadn’t even considered.
Quick Check-In Cue
At the end of the week, ask yourself:
Does my space feel calmer and easier to use?
